Salute to Women and Racial Justice Luncheon
Join the YWCA on May 30, 2008, the YWCA will celebrate women in our community whose professional and volunteer work demonstrate a commitment to women, racial justice and excellence in their fields. In addition, a local corporation was acknowledged as a leader in diversity. The YWCA is delighted to announce the 2008 Honorees to be inducted into the organizations’ Academy of Honorees at the Salute to Women and Racial Justice Luncheon on May 30, 2008:
Rene Syler, Spirit Award Award-winning, national early morning TV journalist and news anchor. Recognized for her contributions to the field of communications, support for breast cancer research and her work on women and families.
Lorraine Chow Hansen, Business Honored for success in corporate America as one of three Senior Vice Presidents and General Managers at Kraft Foods, having advanced through a number of leadership positions, growing mature and new business ventures for the Company. In addition, she has served as a leader promoting Asian cultural awareness and Kraft and helping to elevate the Company’s diversity vision.
Vivian Sebastian, Education Community activist, mentor and leader, helping expand literacy, parenting and other skills to Westchester’s Hispanic community.
Susan Tolchin, Public Service Civic leader and professional dedicated to government service and to service to the community, honored for her active role and leadership in programs and projects that affect the quality of life of Westchester County residents.
Charlene Faison, Science A dedicated scientist and role model for young women considering the field of science, Charlene Faison is also a committed member of her community, providing ministry work in impoverished neighborhoods.
Fozia Khan, Sojourner Truth Racial Justice Award Recognized as a dedicated community activist who reaches out to build bridges among interfaith groups and organizations.
The following women are recognized as “People to Watch;” individuals whose academic excellence and early professional accomplishments demonstrate potential for future leadership roles. Stew Leonard’s will receive the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Corporate Award for its leadership in diversity.
